Susie Cooper Kestrel Shape Crescent Moon Dishes 1930’s

15 Feb
Absolutely beautiful Susie Cooper Dishes

This is a beautiful partial set of dishes designed by Susie Cooper in the Kestrel Shape. The pattern is called Crescent Moon. Colour is Mahogany. There is a definite Art Deco look to the handles and lids.

Susie Cooper was an English ceramic designer. She first worked for A. E. Gray & Company who soon discovered she was a talented designer and painter. In October 1929 she established her own business, Susie Cooper Pottery, in the same building as George Street Pottery in Tunstall England but that place closed down after only 3 weeks and she had to relocate to Chelsea Works in Burslem. Later she moved to Crown Works in 1931 adjacent to Wood & Sons who provided her company with the white ware that she used for her designs.

She was born in 1902 and died in 1995. She retired at the age of 80 and I believe she worked as a freelance designer well into her eighties. Susie Cooper designs are still highly sought after and collected to this day. Prices are usually higher for the ones that are more unusual in design and colour.

The Kestrel shape was launched in 1932, so this is a very early design.

The set shows some signs of crazing on a few pieces which have darkened slightly with age. Most are in very good condition with no apparent crazing.

As this is not a complete set, each piece will be sold separately and will be available at my booth at the The Almonte Antiques & Collectibles Market in Almonte ON. Open 10 to 5 Monday to Friday, free parking at the rear of the building and on the street.

Art Deco Style Ceramic Coffee or Chocolate Pot Set

art deco teapot

I have done some research on this set but have yet to come up with any information.  It is quite striking with the art deco pattern and lovely soft glaze.   I believe this would be a chocolate pot set or an espresso set.  The cups are demi tasse sized and the pot is only about 8″ tall.

There are no makers marks on any of the pieces. Unfortunately, one cup is cracked, one cup has had the handle repaired, and one handle of the sugar bowl has been repaired.   Nevertheless, I still think the set makes a good impression.

This set probably dates to the 1930’s.  It is foreign made, most like from Japan.

Will be for sale at my booth at the Almonte Antique Market, 26 Mill Stree, Almonte Ontario.

Priced at $75 for the set.

Chrome Coffee Pot and Toaster

10 Nov

I went to an auction the other day and was lucky enough to win these two beauties along with the 2 cast iron trivets in one lot.  The coffee pot was made in Renfrew Ontario, Canada and dates to the 1950’s.  The toaster is a real beauty; the sides flip down to insert your bread and you have to toast one side at a time.  They came with their original cords and are in good working condition.    They were both quite dusty and tacky with dirt but they cleaned up very well.

Note: These items have now been SOLD!!
