Kent Automatic Timer-Filter Vacuum Coffee Brewer 1940’s

2 Dec

red percolator 3

This is a very rare drip style coffee pot made by Kent Products Co. in Chicago Illinois back in the 1940’s.  It is in very nice condition, with a couple of extra plastic pieces that just sit on top of the top glass bowl for storage.  The  flat red piece is actually a stand for the top glass bowl once the coffee has been brewed. It is not used as a top.   The top bowl is removed once brewing is complete and put in the red stand.  Better than lying it on its side on the counter I would imagine.  There is also a red plastic scoop for your coffee.

The glass pots are in excellent condition with no damage that I could find. The red flashing with gold accents is in very nice condition with minimal wear.  The black rubber gasket does have a few nicks in it and is a bit stiff but still very usable.  It fits  over the bottom of the top bowl.

I found the instructions for making the ‘World’s Finest Cup of Coffee’ online at this site: http://www.baharris.org/coffee/Collection.htm.  Just look for this model by Kent in the listing and you can print off the instructions to make coffee.  The Automatic Timer-Filter is the porcelain piece that fits inside the top glass bowl.  To brew coffee you fill the bottom bowl with water and the top bowl with ground coffee and then put in on the stove to boil.  The boiled water rises up into the top bowl saturating the coffee.  Allow to boil in the upper bowl for about 1 minute then remove the brewer from the stove. When the coffee has drained back into the lower bowl, remove the upper bowl and serve.  Voila!!!

I have this displayed at my booth at the Almonte Antique Market, 26 Mill Street, Almonte ON.

Priced at $35

Anchor Hocking Chip and Dip Bowls, Black and Gold Leaves

2 Dec

chip and dip set

My photo does not do this bowl set justice. The gold accents make it look very festive against the black hand painted leaves.  I believe these sets were made by Anchor Hocking although there are no markings on them.  I have several mugs by Anchor Hocking with very similar patterns of leaves with the gold trim so I am deducing that they are from the same company. These bowls were produced in the 1950’s to 1960’s when chip and dip sets were so very popular.  These sets came with leaves painted in turquoise, brown, yellow and probably other colours as well. This is first black set I have come across.

Potato chips were first invented in the 1850’s but the chip and dip sets weren’t on the market until the 1950’s when buffet style of serving food became “the” word in entertaining at home.

The set will be for sale at my booth at the Almonte Antique Market 26 Mill Street, Almonte ON, just 30 minutes west of the city of Ottawa ON.  Open 7 days a week, from 10am to 5pm with plenty of free parking at the rear of the building. Over 50 vendors in a 2 storey brick heritage building offer a huge variety of antiques and collectibles to suit every taste.

Priced at $ 25.00 for the set.

Please note this set is now SOLD!!!!

Oil Paintings, Big Eyed Waifs, by Pac, 1965

24 Nov

big eyed paintings

Two very nice examples of the big eyed children pictures that were popular in the 1960’s.  These oil paintings are signed Pac and dated ’65.  I could not find out any information on the artist.  The eyes aren’t as exagerated as in the artist Margaret Keane’s famous big eyed children paintings but the style is similar.

I found a site that listed quite a few ‘big eyed children’ painters.  Interesting to see the different styles.

Priced at $95 for the pair.

They will be for sale in my booth at the Almonte Antique Market, 26 Mill Street, Almonte ON.  Almonte is just 30 minutes west of the city of Ottawa, ON.  The market has 55 different antique vendors and it is open all year round, every day from 10am to 5pm.

The following is from the Kovel site: https://www.kovels.com/?sortby=Angel&option=com_datalists&view=category&catid=392. They have a list of values for Holt Howard items.

Holt-Howard was an importer that started working in New York City in 1949 and moved to Stamford, Connecticut, in 1955. John and Robert Howard and Grant Holt started Holt-Howard, whose first products were Christmas items made and sold in the United States. The company sold many types of table accessories, such as condiment jars, decanters, spoon holders, and saltshakers. The figures shown on some of its pieces had a cartoon-like quality. The company was bought out by General Housewares Corporation in 1969. Holt-Howard pieces are often marked with the name and the year or HH and the year stamped in black. The HH mark was used until 1974. There was also a black and silver label. Production of Holt-Howard ceased in 1990. Similar pieces are being made today by Grant Holt, one of the founders, and are marked GHA.

Please note these shakers have been SOLD!!
