Elle Pottery Norway, Mid 20th Century Large Serving Plate

23 Sep

norway plate

Found at a recent estate sale, this is a beautiful example of Elle Pottery made in Norway. The piece is signed on the back.  Elle Studio produced pottery between 1942 and 1967 in Torkildstranda in Drobak near Oslo. Elle was lead by Tor Samuelssen.  This pottery is now very collectible and  prices are reflecting this interest.

The plate measures over 12 1/2″ and is in very good condition. If you are interested in Mid 20th Century kitchen ware etc., I will be set up at the Carleton Fieldhouse Antique Show on Oct 25th and 26th 2014 in Ottawa, ON where this plate will be for sale.

Priced at $55.00.

Moriage Dragonware Tea Set with Geisha Lithopanes

Nice Moriage Dragonware tea set made in Japan probably in the early to mid twentieth century.  Nice lustrous surfaces on the pieces. Each  porcelain piece has a raised Moriage dragon motif.  Moriage is the slip work or slip clay that is applied to the surface of the items to give it a three dimentional look.

Dragonware was introduced by Nippon in the late 1800’s and is still being produced today and manufactured by many different companies.  Cups with the Geisha Lithopanes were discontinued in the mid twentieth century so at least we can date these to before the 1950’s.

The quality of the older pieces far outweighs the newer souvenir stuff that is available today. You can read more about Dragonware at the following site: mostlydragons.com.

This set is currently on display in my booth at the Almonte Antique Market, 26 Mill Street, Almonte ON.

Priced at $75 for the set which includes: Tea pot, sugar, creamer, 3 cups and saucers. The 3 cups all have the Geisha Lithopanes in the bottoms.

Please note this set is now SOLD!!

Funny Party Leuchter Candles and Candle Stick Holders,

19 Apr

These are probably 1960’s or early 70’s, with the red polka dot mushrooms theme.  Mushrooms were quite the thing in the early 70’s.  I know, I lived through it.

These cute little candle holders are made in West Germany by Leuchter and I have seen boxes with the name Funny Leuchter and now these with Party-Leuchter.  I think leuchter means candlestick, or candlelabra.

Complete in the original box, with the original candles, always a plus.

These are for sale at my booth at the Almonte Antique Market, 26 Mill Street, Almonte ON

Priced at $8.00

Whimsical plaques by Bjorn Wiinblad, a Danish designer, for Nymolle pottery company in Norway in the 60’s or possibly early 70’s.  This is a complete set of 12, one for each month of the year.  All are done in black and white and are in very nice condition.  The surfaces of most of them are crazed slightly, but there is no discolouration or damage.  They have a small hole to thread a ribbon or piece of leather through, so they can be hung for display. They could be  used as trivets as well.  Each measures approx. 6″ in diameter and approx. 1/4″ thick.

These plaques will be for sale at my booth at the Almonte Antique Market, 26 Mill Street, Almonte ON

Priced at $95 for the set.

Please note these items are now SOLD!!
